This world is constantly demanding so much of us, especially Black women. It can be so each to get caught up in grind culture and trying to figure out if balance is even a real thing. Over the last 7 months, I have been truly figuring out the meaning of what self care looks like in my life. These three words constantly came up for me and I wanted to share them with you all.
Rest Your Mind and Body
Rest is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Do not let society, your job, family, whomever, lie to you. Our bodies and minds need a break from all that the world takes from us. We often ignore the signals that tell us to pause. Your rest might include more sleep, quiet time, or meditation. Either way, eliminate the distractions and allow yourself to simply be.
Restore Your Physical, Mental, and Emotional Well-Being
Restoration is rest + more. It involves actively engaging in practices that rejuvenate your body, mind, and emotions. Whether it's nourishing yourself with nourshing meals, engaging in creative activities, or connecting with loved ones. Restoration is about doing choosing intentional activities that restore your soul. When you restrore yourself your body will feel lighter, the shoulders will feel less tension, your mind will be clearer, you will feel less heavy.
Reach Toward Your Goals
Once we are well-rested and restored, we are better positioned to reach for the goals that matter to us. Growth does not happen overnight; it’s the result of small, consistent actions that push us forward. Whether it’s taking a step toward a dream career, learning a new skill, or working on a passion project, reaching for something meaningful keeps us motivated and fulfilled.
Each day offers a fresh opportunity to nurture yourself and I hope you can take something away from this post. I hope the photos give you a glimpse into how I have been trying to live out these principles for my self lately.
